Poetry in the Round - Friday 27 November, Civic Square

Brought to you by BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! in partnership with Aspen Island Theatre Company. This is Poetry in the Round.

Featuring the 2014 winner of the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry, Melinda Smith, whose work appears in national and international journals, including the Best Australian Poems; Melinda’s most recent book is Drag down to unlock or place an emergency call, Pitt St Poetry, 2013.

Featuring multi-talented performance poet Scott Sandwich who rants, reads, and hip hops both awkward and epic. Scott has been a finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam, the Nimbin Poetry World Cup, and won the 2011 Woodford Folk Festival Poetry Slam.
Featuring Andrew Galan with poetry that is gut, direct, been described by reviewers as ‘riddled with satire. Andrew has featured at the Queensland Poetry, Woodford and National Folk festivals, his first book is That Place of Infested Roads (life during wartime), Knives Forks and Spoons Press, 2013.

And featuring the audio-visual displays of Canberra artist Danny Wild (aka low flung). Danny is a founding member of audio visual collective ZONK Vision, undertook the 2014 Canberra Contemporary Art Space Studio Residency Program and is a recipient of an Australia Council ArtStart Grant. The night is MC’ed by stilt-walker and science educator extraordinaire, Joel Barcham. This is Poetry in the Round, a night bringing together local and national writers and performers.

BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! runs nationally renowned poetry slam BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! at the Phoenix Pub, and in partnership with Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres programs Canberra’s newest wildly successful night of feature poets, The Salt Room.
