I have a poem in the ‘TENSE’ issue of Rabbit Journal. Lately I have been writing a lot about work, and this poem covers some aspect of what
I have been focused on in that context. The journal was guest edited by Pascalle
Burton and David Stavanger, thanks to both for including my poem.
You can purchase the journal at Rabbitpoetry.com or
subscribe for several issues. Thank you to Rabbit Poetry Journal.

David
Stavanger
David Stavanger is an award winning poet, writer, and cultural producer. In 2013 he
won the Arts Queensland Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize, resulting in the release
of his first full-length collection of poetry The Special, which was also
awarded the 2015 Wesley Michel Wright Prize. At the 2014 Queensland Literary
Awards he received a Queensland Writing Fellowship to develop his next two
collections. David is also the Co-Director of the Queensland Poetry Festival.
The
Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary
Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary is a fictitious amateur writers’ group comprised of
miscellaneous oddball characters with ‘ideas’ about their place in the literary
world. The various ‘members’ of the auxiliary are devised and performed by a
revolving group of established and emerging writers who have been invited to
turn bad, go rogue, overwrite, underwrite. 'Do it Wrong.'
The FFA
has appeared at Woodford Folk Festival, Bad!Slam! No!Memoir!, the Brisbane
Fringe Festival, and the Queensland Poetry Festival.
Tessa
Rose
Tessa
Rose is a poet and performance artist. She has performed at Brisbane Square
Library, Ruckus Slam, The National Folk Festival, and Woodford Folk Festival.
She performs avant-Jazzercise with Pascalle Burton in 24-Hour Gym, composes
Twin Peaks found poetry, and co-produced the Old Museum’s spoken word open mic
night, BAD!SLAM!NO!MEMOIR!
Beige
Browne
Beige
Brown is Australia’s foremost feminist performance poet. Her permutative sound
poetry introduces productive uncertainty into the phallogentric thrust of
mainstream literary culture, fissuring the pompous edifice and causing little
word-rivulets to trickle out from many smaller openings. A previous participant
at Noted, she has been willfully excluded from other larger literary festivals,
yet is highly regarded by the discerning amongst Australia’s literary
cognoscenti.

grandson of BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT!, he is David Stavanger.
‘David Stavanger’s poetry & flash fiction has been published in various Australian
and international magazines, newspapers & anthologies. Known for his
distinct live performance he has featured at various writers festivals &
poetry venues around the world. His chapbook And the Ringmaster Said… was
released through QLD's Small Change Press in 2008. In 2012 he was invited to be
QLD’s Writer in Residence as part of the National Year of Reading. In 2013 he
received CAL funding to visit Edinburgh and be mentored in their
Reader-in-Residence program. As part of this UK tour he also presented at
StAnza, Scotland’s National Poetry Festival. In the same year he also won the
Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize and took up residency as Australia’s inaugural
“Reader-in-Residence”, a 12 month live weekly writing & poetry installation
at Brisbane Square Library. His new poetry collection The Special will be
released by UQP in August 2014.’
Our house
band is the Viola Cloning Project!
‘The
Viola Cloning Project is a one-man, one-viola, seventy-five-effect-pedal band.
Using loop recorders and harmoniser pedals in particular, a single instrument
becomes a full string and percussion orchestra. It is the brainchild of Richard
Grantham, a classically-trained composer and band-hardened
multi-instrumentalist based in Brisbane, Australia.’
And
filling the Hadley Memorial Slots is the Flying V.

BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT!, 7:30pm to sign-up, 8pm to poetry slam, all night for

I won
a grant from ArtsACT
to work on my second book of poetry.
The grant
will support mentoring by David Stavanger as well as have him edit the
manuscript with me. I will be travelling to Brisbane in January and again in
February to work with him
I am really stoked about being supported in working with David. Seeing him perform as Ghostboy at Night Words Festival in the Sydney Opera House in 2008 was a big part of why I started performing my poetry, and he has been totally supportive of poetry in the Australian Capital Territory since Hadley and I started talking about establishing a poetry slam in Canberra.
This is the first grant application I have applied for to pursue my
writing. I am excited that the application was supported by the ACT
Government and know that time away gave me the space to put the grant application together.
Preparation
for working with David is already underway, dates have been finalised for my
travel to Queensland and I have been editing the manuscript with The Tragic
Troubadours, Amanda and on my own so that it is in the best shape possible when
I go to Queensland.
The
current working title of the manuscript is for
all the veronicas (the dog who staid). Paul Summerfield has agreed to
create an original artwork for the cover after I asked if I could use the piece,
Forgotten City, and he said he
would put something together especially for the book.
Poet David Stavanger
interviewed me in the lead up to the Queensland Poetry Festival (QPF) 2014. I
enjoyed the breadth of the questions and the reference to David Byrne’s interview
of himself. This is the David Byrne interview.
I have three performances at the festival, they come
under the QPF provided titles of Jungle
of Drums, Night Uncurls its Palm
and The Unknown Future of Everything.
I set all these under the line “Do you know my poetry?” From the film Dead
Man, which has been informing the structure of the manuscript I have been
working and has the working title of for all the
veronicas (the dog who staid).
I like titles and names. Read the interview on the QPF website, and check out David Stavanger’s new book The Special published by University of Queensland Press.
