RABBIT 27 – Tense (Within Australia)

I have a poem in the ‘TENSE’ issue of Rabbit Journal. Lately I have been writing a lot about work, and this poem covers some aspect of what I have been focused on in that context. The journal was guest edited by Pascalle Burton and David Stavanger, thanks to both for including my poem.

You can purchase the journal at Rabbitpoetry.com or subscribe for several issues. Thank you to Rabbit Poetry Journal.

Today, the voice you speak with may not be your own, issue 8

I have a poem in the latest and last issue of Pascalle Burton’s, Today, the voice you speak with may not be your own. This is issue 8 and it also features the work of Carody Culver, Ian Gibbins, Elena Kotasvili, Jackie Ryan, Nathan Shepherdson, Renee Vaughan Sutherland and Anne-Marie Te Whiu.

My piece is A transcript of the Dungeons & Dragons opening credits. I’ve included the video source below. The series was never concluded and so these six kids have been left trapped forever in the realm of Dungeons and Dragons.

The theme of the issue is Space

I have a new poem in the sixth issue of the zine Today, the voice you speak with may not be your own, the theme of the issue is Space.
Today, the voice you speak with may not be your own
The piece was developed from the astrophysics report Planet Hunters X. KIC 8462852 - Where's the Flux? and uses an online tool to apply a modified version of the S+7 Oulipo procedure invented by Jean Lescure.

The work has been published alongside pieces from Ian Gibbins, Elena Kotasvili, Nathan Shepherdson, Renee Vaughan Sutherland and Annie Te Whiu.
This is what the zine series creator Pascalle Burton has to say about the series, ‘The zine consists of the words, images and concepts of others. Expect found and visual poetry and collage, plus contributions from other artists and poets. Even the title of the zine series must be attributed to DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid.’

The Salt Room - 20 November at the Gorman Arts Centre

Brought to you by BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! in partnership with the Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres, the Salt Room is the poetry and performance night the Australian Capital Territory deserves.

Bringing together local, national and international writers and performers it showcases some of the best that poetry can be.

For this event we have Pascalle Burton (Brisbane), Adam Hadley (Brisbane), Suzanne Edgar (Canberra) and CJ Bowerbird (Canberra).

All MCed by Joel Barcham and Andrew Galan

Read below for more information about each of our performers.

Avant-garde performance-poet musician-lady, whose experimental manoeuvres with words and sound are usually founded in cultural theory and have been described as an ‘elegant dragnet’. Pascalle has performed at venues and festivals, both in Australia and overseas. Current projects include The Stress Of Leisure, Letter.Box.Stamp.Collect., The Outlandish Watch project (with collaborators Nathan Shepherdson and David Stavanger), the Golden Stapler Award nominated The Lavender Room Zine-in-a-Matchbox series and the accessories label TWENTY FIVE SEVENTY FIVE for The Lavender Room. Her debut poetry collection A Vast Laugh was released through Small Change Press in 2008. This year in collaboration with Nathan Sheperdson she created UN/SPOOL.

Adam Hadley
Adam Hadley is a story teller, performance poet & MC. With his partner Tessa Rose he has hosted at Woodford Folk Festival and performed poetry about Twin Peaks to confused G20 protestors. He is one of the hive minds behind Brisbane’s story-slam Bad Slam No Memoir, and has had work published by Seizure Online, black & blue and Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary.

Suzanne Edgar
Suzanne Edgar’s recent books are Still Life and The Love Procession, both 2012. Her poems are in many anthologies including The Best Australian Poems 2004 & 2005, 2011, 2012 & 2015.

An overview of her poetry and a current interview with her by John Beston are in Antipodes (Dec 2014) and may be read online.

'Moments of heartfelt tragedy combined with raw humour.' CJ Bowerbird explores what it is to be human, writing about things we have lost, things we never had and things that are slipping through our fingers. Most recently featuring at Woodford Folk Festival, CJ has performed across Australia, China, Indonesia and the US. He was the 2012 Australian Poetry Slam Champion and hosts Bloody Lips – Words of Passion, Spoken and Sung in Canberra, ACT.

So join The Master of Conflict, the audience, the judges, the poets, the sound guy, the bar staff, The Score Adder, the toilet goers, the feature acts, the MCs, the drinkers and the yellers, for prizes, arm flapping, headgear wearing, and coherent and/or incoherent shouting in the Phoenix Pub.

And this month we bring you Pascalle Burton
Yes our first feature act is Pascalle Burton, Pascalle Burton is an Avant-garde performance-poet musician-lady, whose experimental manoeuvres with words and sound are usually founded in cultural theory and have been described as an ‘elegant dragnet’. The Stress of Leisure is a truly independent band and continues to release under its own imprint The Stress of Leisure Recording Co. Four albums have been released: The Stress of Leisure (2006), Hour to Hour (2008), Soft Approach (2010) and Cassowary (2012); as well as the 7" single Sex Time (2011). Various commentators have referred to the band as 'local pop wonders', as 'criminally underrated', a band that ease 'seamlessly through a variety of genres'. The slow burn continues.

Mall Stories 2013

Julian Fleetwood has put together Mall Stories as part of YouAreHere for two years.

Mall Stories is a walking tour composed of words by writers from around the world and centres on the Mall experience. The first tour, Mall Stories 2012, took place within the Canberra Centre.

This year the collection has extended into a tour around Canberra’s civic centre, mostly outdoors, while continuing the exploration of the growing mall named the Canberra Centre.

I am stoked to be alongside writers and artists such as Monica Caroll, Pascalle Burton, Daniel Ferri, Art Rush and Marcus Westbury, as well as a bunch of others from Canberra and the wider world.

You can download Mall Stories 2013 and Mall Stories 2012.
