Mall Stories 2013

Julian Fleetwood has put together Mall Stories as part of YouAreHere for two years.

Mall Stories is a walking tour composed of words by writers from around the world and centres on the Mall experience. The first tour, Mall Stories 2012, took place within the Canberra Centre.

This year the collection has extended into a tour around Canberra’s civic centre, mostly outdoors, while continuing the exploration of the growing mall named the Canberra Centre.

I am stoked to be alongside writers and artists such as Monica Caroll, Pascalle Burton, Daniel Ferri, Art Rush and Marcus Westbury, as well as a bunch of others from Canberra and the wider world.

You can download Mall Stories 2013 and Mall Stories 2012.

BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! 730pm @ The Phoenix Pub

If it wasn’t for HAMBURGER you wouldn’t have BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT!

So the July BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! is hereby declared HAMBURGER BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! in July!

And in honour of HAMBURGER BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! in July! we bring you:

Two microphones, a stage, an audience, THE MASTER OF CONFLICT, score adding (by The Score Adder), two MCs (likely including the above THE MASTER OF CONLFICT) and

WE GIVE YOU TWO MINUTES TO PERFORM YOUR ORIGINAL MATERIAL WITH NO PROPS OR MUSIC ON A STAGE.

And there will be judging.

And because no HAMBURGER BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! in July! is complete without not only bringing you the stage with the two microphones, the opportunity to perform your poems to an audience, judging by The Master of Conflict, and the judging by the judges in the audience, and the adding up, we also bringing you two feature acts.

Feature Act I is:

HAMBURGER Julian Fleetwood
HAMBURGER Julian Fleetwood was a misguided teenager who wrote a terrible text adventure based on a Terry Pratchett joke, BUT THIS IS NO JOKE, zombies are attacking Canberra and there's only one person who can save the city: YOU!

Feature Act II:

HAMBURGER Rafe Morris
HAMBURGER Rafe Morris writes songs. HAMBURGER Rafe Morris plays these songs in front of people. Sometimes he plays with a band called HAMBURGER The Well Dressed. Together they're called HAMBURGER Rafe and HAMBURGER The Well Dressed. They're pretty good. But for this night you just get HAMBURGER Rafe Morris.

So remember: NO MUSIC, NO PROPS, 2 MINUTES, YOUR ORIGINAL MATERIAL!
7:30PM at The Phoenix, East Row, Canberra, not HAMBURGER not provided.

One Hundred Words on the TWELVE NOVEMBER CANBERRA AUSTRALIAN POETRY SLAM FINAL

Poets from the Canberra BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! and Front Slam filled the air with words Friday night at Smiths Alternative Bookshop. They came to sock it out to represent their Slams at the Australian Poetry Slam National Final. CJ Huet stole the audience with the Underbelly of the Can as Raphael Kabo gunned down Ned Kelly; both narrowly beat Jack-in-the-Box Will Small and Sledge-Hammer Josh Inmania. The Phoenix Pub BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! will take pride in taunting that Front Slam for the next year, both finalists came from BAD!SLAM! nights of heckling, applause, general yelling, the occasional anarchist riot, cider, whiskey, beer, and much poetry.

(Thanks to Johnboy for filming and the RiotACT who did a short write-up of the night here)
